📋 Overview

Running out of input pins on your microcontroller? The CD74HC4067 breakout board lets you connect up to 16 analog or digital sensors to your microcontroller using just 5 pins. It works like an electronically controlled rotary switch — routing one common signal pin (SIG) to any of 16 channel pins (C0–C15) based on a 4-bit binary address you set on four select pins (S0–S3).

Signals flow in either direction, so the board works equally well as a multiplexer (many-to-one) or a demultiplexer (one-to-many). It handles both analog and digital signals, operates from 2V to 6V, and is compatible with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, ESP32, and virtually any 3.3V or 5V microcontroller.

⭐ Key Features

  • 16 Channels, 5 Pins: Control 16 independent signal channels using S0, S1, S2, S3, and SIG — freeing the rest of your GPIO for other tasks.
  • Analog & Digital: Works with analog voltage signals and digital logic signals — use it for sensors, buttons, serial lines, and more.
  • Bidirectional: Signals flow in either direction — multiplex inputs or demultiplex outputs with the same board.
  • Enable Pin (EN): Drive EN HIGH to instantly disconnect SIG from all channels — useful for power saving or bus isolation.
  • Break-Before-Make Switching: Prevents channel-to-channel short-circuits during switching (6 ns at 4.5V).
  • Low On-Resistance: 70Ω at 4.5V for clean signal switching with minimal voltage drop.
  • Wide Supply Range: 2V to 6V — works with both 3.3V and 5V systems.
  • Expandable: Cascade multiple boards for 32, 48, or 64+ channels using the EN pin for board selection.

🎯 Applications

  • Reading 16 analog sensors (temperature, light, moisture, flex, force) with one Arduino analog pin
  • Scanning 16 buttons or switches with a single digital input
  • Routing TTL serial TX lines from 16 devices to one microcontroller RX pin
  • Expanding I2C or SPI buses to multiple devices
  • Data acquisition systems needing many analog channels on a single ADC
  • Audio signal routing and switching circuits

⚠️ Important Notes

  • Signal voltage must not exceed VCC. Any voltage on C0–C15 or SIG above VCC can permanently damage the chip. For 3.3V sensors on a 5V system, use a logic level converter on the signal lines.
  • EN pin must be held LOW to operate. Do not leave EN floating. Connect it to GND to keep the chip always enabled, or drive it from a digital output pin for software control.
  • One channel at a time. Only one channel connects to SIG at any moment — the CD74HC4067 cannot bridge multiple channels simultaneously.
  • Unused channel pins should not float. Tie unused Cx pins to GND (analog) or a defined logic level (digital) to prevent noise on the SIG line.
