📋 Overview

The MT3608 Micro-USB is a compact, high-efficiency step-up (boost) DC-DC converter module that accepts any input from 2V to 24V and boosts it to an adjustable output from 5V up to 28V. Unlike the standard MT3608 module, this version features a built-in Micro-USB input connector, allowing you to power the module by simply plugging it into any standard 5V USB power supply or power bank — no soldering required on the input side. It also includes traditional solder pads for direct wiring to any 2V–24V DC source.

⚠️ Important: This is a boost (step-up only) converter — the output voltage must always be higher than the input voltage. Do not exceed 24V input or 28V output. Maximum output power is 10W. The Micro-USB and solder pad inputs should not be powered simultaneously from different voltage sources.

⭐ Key Features

  • Dual Input Options: Micro-USB connector (5V) or solder pads (2V–24V DC) — use whichever suits your project
  • Adjustable Output: 5V to 28V via onboard potentiometer
  • Output Current: Up to 2A peak
  • Maximum Output Power: 10 Watts
  • High Efficiency: Up to 97%, typically 93% at Vout=12V, Vin=5V, Iout=200mA
  • High Switching Frequency: 1.2 MHz (constant frequency, current-mode control)
  • Built-in Protections: Under-voltage lockout, current limiting, thermal overload
  • Automatic PFM Mode: Switches to pulse frequency modulation at light loads for improved efficiency
  • Internal Soft-Start: Minimizes inrush current on power-up
  • Ultra-Compact Size: Tiny 30 × 17 × 7 mm (1.18 × 0.67 × 0.28 in) PCB for embedded use

📌 Pinout

Pad / Connector Function
Micro-USB 5V DC power input (from USB power supply or power bank)
Vin+ Positive DC input (2V–24V), alternative to USB input
Vin− Negative DC input / Ground
Vout+ Positive boosted DC output (adjustable up to 28V)
Vout− Negative DC output / Ground

🚀 Getting Started

  1. Connect the module to a 5V USB power supply or power bank via the Micro-USB connector, or wire Vin+ and Vin− to a 2V–24V DC source.
  2. With the output disconnected from your load, attach a multimeter to Vout+ and Vout− (DC voltage mode).
  3. Adjust the potentiometer to set the desired output voltage. Turn counter-clockwise to increase voltage. You may need to turn it many turns initially to reach the operating range.
  4. Once the multimeter reads your desired voltage, connect your load to Vout+ and Vout−.
  5. Verify the output voltage under load and fine-tune the potentiometer if needed.

🎯 Applications

  • USB-powered LED strip drivers (12V strips from 5V USB)
  • Battery voltage boosting for portable electronics
  • IoT sensor node power supplies
  • Arduino / Raspberry Pi project power rails
  • Solar panel voltage boosting
  • Portable instrument and test equipment power
  • Charging higher-voltage battery packs from USB

⚠️ Important Notes

  • This is a boost-only converter — output voltage must always be higher than input voltage.
  • Do not exceed 24V input or 28V output.
  • Do not exceed 2A output current or 10W output power.
  • The potentiometer turns counter-clockwise to increase voltage — opposite of many other converter modules.
  • The Micro-USB and solder pad inputs can be used interchangeably but should not be powered simultaneously from different voltage sources.
  • Input power must be greater than output power plus ~10% for conversion losses. Always verify your input source can deliver sufficient current.
  • Use a USB power supply rated for at least 2A when powering high-current loads via USB.
  • Disconnect power before making any wiring changes.
