📋 Overview
The LM317T adjustable voltage regulator module converts DC input from 5V to 35V, or AC input from 5V to 22V, into a clean, regulated DC output continuously adjustable from approximately 1V to 34V using the onboard multi-turn potentiometer. An integrated rectifier bridge allows both AC and DC input sources, and a large 1000µF filter capacitor reduces ripple, noise, and interference from common switching power supplies.
This module is ideal for repurposing surplus computer power supplies, wall adapters, and laptop chargers as a clean, adjustable DC power source for electronics, radios, and other equipment. For example, a 19V laptop power supply can provide a regulated, adjustable output from a few volts up to approximately 16V.
🚀 Getting Started
- Connect your DC or AC power source to the input screw terminals (observe polarity for DC input).
- Connect your load or device to the output screw terminals.
- Apply power — the onboard LED will illuminate to confirm input voltage is present.
- Adjust the multi-turn potentiometer to set your desired output voltage. Use a multimeter on the output terminals to verify the voltage before connecting sensitive equipment.
⭐ Key Features
- Wide Input Range: Accepts 5V–35V DC or 5V–22V AC input, compatible with a wide variety of power sources
- Adjustable Output: Continuously variable output from approximately 1V to 34V DC via onboard multi-turn potentiometer
- AC and DC Input: Built-in rectifier bridge allows direct connection of AC power sources without an external rectifier
- Low-Noise Output: Large 1000µF input filter capacitor reduces ripple, hash noise, and interference from switching power supplies
- Power Indicator: PCB-mounted LED illuminates when input voltage is applied
- Easy Connections: Screw terminal connectors for both input and output — no soldering required
- Compact Design: Small form factor with integrated heatsink for thermal management

⚠️ Important Notes
- This is a step-down linear regulator — the input voltage must be at least approximately 2.5V greater than the desired output voltage.
- When the difference between input and output voltage exceeds 10V, keep output current below 400mA to prevent overheating.
- At higher ambient temperatures or higher output currents, active cooling such as forced airflow may be required.
- Always verify the output voltage with a multimeter before connecting sensitive equipment.
- Do not exceed the maximum input voltage ratings: 35V DC or 22V AC.
