π Overview
The F23J5V3A1S-C is a compact, waterproof (IP68) DC-DC step-down buck converter that converts 8Vβ23V DC input (nominally 12V) to a stable 5V DC output at up to 3A (15W). The output is delivered through a USB-C connector on a flexible cable, making it ideal for charging phones, powering dash cams, GPS units, Raspberry Pi boards, and other USB-C devices directly from a vehicle, boat, solar panel, or battery system.
The module uses a high-efficiency switching regulator (85β95%) sealed in an epoxy-filled waterproof housing with integrated mounting tabs for easy, permanent installation in demanding environments.
β οΈ Important: This module outputs 5V only and does not include a USB Power Delivery (PD) negotiation chip. It charges devices that accept standard 5V USB power. Devices that require PD negotiation (such as USB-C laptops) will not charge from this module, and some PD-capable devices may default to a slower USB baseline current (0.5β0.9A). See the USB-C Compatibility section and our User Guide linked below for full details.
β Key Features
- Wide Input Voltage Range β Accepts 8V to 23V DC, compatible with 12V automotive, marine, and solar battery systems
- Stable 5V 3A Output β Delivers up to 15W of regulated power through a USB-C connector
- IP68 Waterproof β Fully sealed epoxy housing rated for dust-tight and submersion protection
- High Efficiency β 85β90% typical, up to 95% maximum, minimizing heat and wasted energy
- Built-In Protections β Overload, over-current, over-voltage, and low-voltage protection with auto recovery
- Compact and Lightweight β Only 46 Γ 27 Γ 14 mm and 36g, fits in tight installation spaces
- Mounting Tabs β Integrated tabs with screw holes for secure, permanent installation
- Bare Wire Input β Easy to connect to any DC power source with standard wiring methods
π USB-C Compatibility
This module provides 5V power only through its USB-C connector. It does not include a USB Power Delivery (PD) negotiation chip. Here's what that means for your devices:
β Works Great With
- Most smartphones (Android and iPhone) β charges at standard 5V speed
- Dash cams β designed for 5V USB power, fully compatible
- GPS units β standard 5V USB devices
- Action cameras (GoPro, etc.) β typically 5V powered
- Raspberry Pi 4 / Arduino β 5V 3A is the recommended supply
- USB-C LED lights, fans, and accessories β simple 5V devices
β οΈ Limited Compatibility
- Tablets (iPad, Samsung Tab) β may charge slowly; some tablets default to USB baseline current (0.5β0.9A) without PD negotiation
- Qualcomm Quick Charge devices β will fall back to standard 5V charging, not fast charge speeds
- Nintendo Switch (handheld) β may charge very slowly at baseline current
π« Not Compatible With
- USB-C laptops β require PD negotiation at higher voltages (typically 20V)
- Nintendo Switch dock β requires PD negotiation at 15V
- Any device that requires PD negotiation to begin charging
π‘ Tip: If your device charges fine from a standard USB port on a computer, it will work great with this module. If your device's charger uses PD or Quick Charge at 9V or higher, this module will either charge it slowly or not at all. See our User Guide for a detailed explanation of USB-C PD behavior.

π¦ What's in the Box
- 1x F23J5V3A1S-C DC-DC Converter Module with USB-C output cable
Mounting screws, input power source, and connected devices are not included.
π Wiring
| Wire Color | Connection |
|---|---|
| Red | Positive (+) terminal of DC power source (8β23V) |
| Black | Negative (β) / Ground terminal of DC power source |
β οΈ Important: Double-check polarity before applying power. Reversed polarity can permanently damage the module. Red = positive, Black = negative. We recommend installing a 3A inline fuse on the positive input wire for added protection.
π Getting Started
- Verify your power source provides between 8V and 23V DC
- Disconnect power before making any connections
- Connect the red wire to positive (+) and black wire to negative (β)
- Secure connections with crimp connectors, solder, or screw terminals
- Mount the module using the built-in mounting tabs
- Apply power and plug in your USB-C device to verify operation
π‘ Tip: See our complete User Guide for detailed wiring instructions, fuse recommendations, USB-C PD compatibility details, and troubleshooting tips.
π― Typical Applications
- Vehicle phone and device charging (car, truck, motorcycle, ATV, RV)
- Dash cam hardwired power supply
- Marine electronics β USB charging from 12V boat battery
- Solar and off-grid systems β 12V battery to USB-C conversion
- Raspberry Pi / single-board computer power from 12V battery
- GPS and navigation unit hardwired power
- Action camera continuous power (GoPro, etc.)
- USB-C LED lighting and accessories from 12V systems
β οΈ Important Notes
- Do not exceed 23V input voltage. Input above 23V may damage the module.
- Do not reverse polarity. Always connect red to positive and black to negative.
- No USB data support. This module provides power only β no data transfer, video, or other USB data functions.
- No PD negotiation. Outputs 5V only. Devices requiring USB PD may default to USB baseline current (0.5β0.9A) or may not charge at all.
- Non-isolated topology. Input and output grounds are electrically connected.
- Waterproof rating applies to the module body. The USB-C connector is not waterproof when exposed β protect the connection point in wet environments.
- Operating temperature: -25Β°C to +60Β°C. Avoid mounting in locations that exceed this range.
