⚠️ LASER SAFETY — READ BEFORE USE

This module emits a visible laser beam (~5mW, Class IIIa/3R). Never point at eyes, faces, animals, aircraft, or vehicles. Direct or reflected laser light can cause eye injury. Always follow proper laser safety precautions.

Need a precise point of reference instead of a line? The 650nm 5mW Red Dot Laser Module projects a sharp, focused red laser dot — perfect for pointing, targeting, and precision alignment where a single reference point is all you need. The adjustable focus ring lets you fine-tune the dot from a tight pinpoint to a slightly larger spot depending on your working distance.

This module uses an APC (Automatic Power Control) drive circuit, which actively monitors and regulates the laser diode's output to keep brightness consistent even as temperature and voltage fluctuate — giving you a more stable, reliable dot than a simple resistor-limited driver. Housed in a durable 12mm diameter × 35mm brass housing, it's built to the same rugged form factor as our line laser module, just with a dot-producing lens.

⚠️ Important: The metal case is not electrically isolated — it is tied to the laser diode's anode and will be at the same voltage as your power supply. Do not ground the case or allow it to contact grounded metal surfaces, as this will short-circuit and damage the module.

⚡ Key Features

  • Precision dot beam: Projects a sharp, focused red dot — ideal for pointing, targeting, and single-point alignment.
  • APC drive circuit: Automatic Power Control keeps output stable and consistent, compensating for temperature and voltage changes.
  • Adjustable focus: Rotate the threaded lens to fine-tune dot size and sharpness for different distances.
  • Wide operating range: Runs on DC3V–6V, giving flexibility across battery packs, regulated supplies, and microcontroller-friendly voltages.
  • Compact brass housing: 12mm diameter × 35mm length — durable, corrosion-resistant, and good heat dissipation.
  • Low, predictable current draw: Maximum ~40mA, suitable for driving from a transistor-switched digital output.

🔧 How to Use

  1. Connect power: Apply DC3V–6V across the module's leads, observing correct polarity. The dot activates immediately.
  2. Focus the dot: Aim at a surface and gently rotate the focus ring until the dot is as sharp and small as needed for your application.
  3. Mount and aim: Secure the housing in a bracket or fixture and aim at your target reference point.
  4. Microcontroller control (optional): For digital on/off switching from an Arduino or similar board, drive the module through a transistor or MOSFET rather than directly from a GPIO pin, since the module's current draw can exceed safe GPIO limits on some boards.

🎯 Perfect For

  • Pointing & targeting — presentations, demonstrations, and precision aiming tasks
  • Laser tripwire / security — pair with a photoresistor to detect when the beam is broken across a doorway or corridor
  • Alignment reference points — mark a single fixed point for assembly, drilling, or positioning tasks
  • Robotics — obstacle detection, boundary marking, or targeting feedback
  • Optics experiments — demonstrate beam collimation, reflection, and focusing principles
  • Arduino & STEM projects — teach digital/analog output control and optical sensing
